WELCOME

As Mayor, I would like to "welcome" you to the City of Massillon Web Page.

Massillon is a City on the move!! Our motto is "A CITY WITH A FUTURE!" You are always welcome to our wonderful City of 33,000 friendly people. Massillon's total acreage is 12,128.653 : the City encompasses 18.951 square miles. Our growth is a significant part of our prosperity and culture.

Massillon is a city long known for the game of high school football. The Massillon Washington High School Tigers have an enviable football tradition that goes back to the 1890's and only gets better with age. Our beautiful football facility is named "Paul Brown Tiger Stadium", in honor of Massillon's own legendary Paul Brown.

Massillon has many job opportunities and educational facilities, such as the Massillon Public Library, the Ohio Society of Military History Museum, the Five Oaks mansion and Spring Hill Home. There are various family oriented events, such as weekly weekend Downtown Cruise-ins every summer weekend, Downtown Concert Series, July 4th Picnic In The Park, the Holiday/Christmas Parade, and the Community Wide Candlelight Service and many more.

Families can enjoy and have fun at Massillon's 27 public parks and we have opened the new $10,000,000 Community Recreation Center. Golf enthusiasts can relax and play at The Legends of Massillon public golf course. The Lions Lincoln Theatre provides family movies and stage show entertainment.

The new Great Escapes Theatre complex, a 12 screen cinema, is open and doing fine.

For our art enthusiasts we have a wonderful Museum with interesting exhibits. In our downtown area we have three murals painted by the renowned Washington State artist Eric Grohe. Local artists Larry and Monica Zink have completed a mural honoring Massillon's veterans.

The citizens of Massillon open our hearts, extend our friendships and our long- time Massillon traditions to everyone who visits us.

My doors are always open!

  Francis H. Cicchinelli, Jr.

Mayor Francis H. Cicchinelli, Jr. is a lifelong resident of the City of Massillon, Ohio. Since he was three (3) years old he has wanted to be the Mayor of his hometown.

On January 1st, 1988 his dream came true and he took his first Oath of Office as Mayor. He has served four (4) full four (4) year terms and is serving in his sixth term which will expire on December 31, 2011.

Prior to his election to Office of the Mayor he served three (3) terms as Second Ward Councilmember (January 1, 1974 - December 31, 1979) and he served four ( 4 ) terms as a Councilmember-at Large (January 1, 1980 - December 31, 1987). He also served City Council as President Pro Tem (1984 - 1986).

While serving on City Council for several terms, he chaired and/or was a member of the most prestigious Committee of Council, the Community Development and Annexation Committee. Council Member Cicchinelli took a special interest in annexation of nearby land into the city for industrial, commercial and residential development.

As Mayor, his duties encompass overseeing all administrative city departments, including the safety forces. He is also responsible for appointing city residents to all City Commissions and Boards within the city government.

The Mayor is responsible for developing a budget within which the entire city operates. This year's budget is in excess of 40 million dollars. He must monitor all spending and see to it that all city departments spend within their budgets. He also monitors and administers all capital improvements expenditures, as they are part of the city budget.

Mayor Cicchinelli's main focus during his terms of office has been development and annexation. He has been the driving force in the annexation of over nine additional square miles being 6,013.486 additional acres of land in the last thirty years. His aggressive annexation policies have sparked significant community and economic development. He has taken an active role in recruiting numerous businesses and industries to locate in the City of Massillon. New and expanded industries include Polymer Packaging, Pepsi, Brink's, Poly One Corporation, Nickles Bakery, Omni Die Casting, Inc., Sterilite, U.S. Chemical & Plastics, Inc., and Heinz Frozen Foods, to name just a few.

Under his leadership, the City of Massillon is truly a CITY ON THE MOVE! Massillon has doubled its size in square miles in the past thirty years. This is quite a remarkable statistic, considering most other municipalities in this region have lost population, industries and businesses during that time period. Massillon's economy is diversified and strong. Come grow with us!
